What’s Up, Actionites?
ActionFest 2012 had a number of amazing highlights, from the films to the panels to the live stunt show. But you can probably tell that we don’t take ourselves ALL that seriously, right?
So why not shine a light on some of the funniest moments of the festival, whether intentional or otherwise!
#5 – Festival Director Colin Geddes Dons a Bullet Proof Vest on Opening Night
Sure, we say that ActionFest is “the film festival with a body count.” But no one else seemed to worry about that hard enough to pack protection! Maybe Colin considers a flack jacket to be appropriate formal attire for the opening night’s red carpet? Either way, Colin wins with the best outfit on the red carpet!
#4 – Gina Carano Lights John Cann on Fire!
Every year we promise a ton of thrills at the live Stunt Show. Stunt Show Coordinator John Cann didn’t disappoint us this time around as there were some amazing displays of martial arts, gunplay, high falls, and motorcycle tricks. But how funny was it to see the lovely Gina Carano light John Cann on fire? Sure, we all know that Gina is a tough chick. But she sure seemed nervous to be lighting a grown man on fire! I guess I can’t blame her.
#3 – Feral Chihuahuas Sketch
At the awards ceremony on Saturday night, local Asheville, NC comedy group Feral Chihuahuas did a comedy sketch to be reckoned with. Poking fun at Hollywood big shots and praising stunt men at the same time, the guys had us all sweating at the beginning. They sure took a bold track when they AT FIRST appeared to be teasing the very stunt men we were honoring. (I know I wouldn’t want to crack jokes at a stunt guy’s expense since I know they could all beat the crap out of me!). But like the smart comedians they are, the sketch ultimately paid homage to stunt professionals and had us all laughing at the same time!
#2 – The Video Introduction for The Raid: Redemption brought to us by Director Gareth Evans
Um, yes. This was an awesome treat exclusively created for ActionFest and hosted by Twitch! Just watch, my words are meaningless:
#1 – Rocketman lights a cigar off of his piping hot jetpack!
There is no question that Rocketman was a highlight of the festival for everyone involved. Seeing a man take flight strapped to a contraption like that brings us joy on some kind of primal level. But when the Rocketman dons a tuxedo, flies over downtown Asheville, lands on the red carpet, and THEN lights a cigar off his own tailpipe? Well, that right there is the funniest moment of ActionFest 2012, hands down. Behold: Rocketman, like a boss.
